Ave Maria

Ave Maria – Watercolor – 9 x 13 inches.

What makes something interesting to paint? At first, this room in a little town near the Mediterranean coast of Spain evoked an awareness of the past. But during the two days it took to paint it, the feeling changed from something that might have occurred a long time ago into an ominous sense of something that hadn’t happened yet, but was about to.

Behind the Sky

Behind The Sky – Acrylic/canvas – 36 x 48 inches.

A woman sleeps as the tide rolls in. A tall, pale plant sprouts from the sand against the backdrop of a transparent hillside. Oh yes, a red sky. Have I forgotten anything?

(Several people have inquired about the current whereabouts of this painting. I sold it to a film set designer many years ago, and the last time I saw it was in Hollywood. Since then the trail has grown cold.)

Dancing Light Creek

Dancing Light Creek – Acrylic/canvas – 31 x 40 inches.

There we were, Chris and I, a couple of dudes, wandering around in a wild part of Arizona. By and by we discovered a stream. I was going to call this painting, “Somewhere Near Nowhere,” but “Dancing Light Creek” seemed a better title because that’s what the light was doing.
